Letter from the President
by Bryan Warshofsky
This month, in addition to the President’s message, I was asked to
write the "What’s In It For Me?" article for the newsletter. This got me
thinking about the things that our chapter has for members who want to
be involved. In addition to the PDM’s, education classes and job
postings, I believe the most valuable asset that our chapter has is the
knowledge, experience and goodwill of the members of the chapter. I am
honored to be associated APICS and the Princeton South Jersey Chapter.
Professional Development Meetings (PDM’s) are one of the ways that
chapter members can keep in contact with each other and with the chapter
board of directors. This year we have made some changes to the PDM’s
which have lead to improved turn out at the meetings. Additional
meetings in South Jersey, for members who have trouble making it to our
central jersey location, have provided an opportunity for more members
to be involved. I would like to thank those who have attended the PDMs
and invite those who have not to come to one in the future. I also would
like to thank the presenters who have been willing to share their
knowledge and insight with our group.
The chapter membership has increased throughout the course of the year,
and we encourage new members to come to a PDM or two and see what it is
all about.
I am very excited about the March PDMs. For South Jersey we have Sherry
Read who will discuss tips on leadership. For Central Jersey, we will
have a joint meeting with WERC, CSCMP and our group and will include a
plant tour of the Hyundai Parts Plan. Tours are a great opportunity to
see how work is done in a different environment and can trigger some
opportunities that you may be able to take back to your companies. The
plant tour will have an early start time of 4 PM, which is earlier than
our normal meetings, so please plan accordingly.
PDM’s also provide an opportunity to earn credit toward re-certification
of CPIM. For those members who have passed the CPIM, you need to be
re-certified every 5 years. The recertification process is outlined on
the APICS website and requires that members document APICS related
education events to earn points for recertification. If anyone is
currently undergoing the recertification process and needs more
information, please contact a board member.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our PDMs, and sharing the
benefits of APICS and our chapter.
